Evan Bennett

Deputy Director

Evan Bennett grew up in Springfield, Missouri and started his journey into the nonprofit world by performing in local community theater productions and operas. After graduating from high school, Evan studied vocal performance at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio and later continued to complete his Master of Music at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Later on, Evan discovered a passion for arts and nonprofit administration and decided to complete his Master of Business Administration at Drury University in 2015.

During the two-year period between finishing his first master’s degree and starting his MBA, Evan lived in Austria teaching English in Linz and Vienna under the auspices of the Fulbright Program/Austrian-American Educational Commission. Evan speaks fluent German and completed a course and certificate at the C2 level at the University of Vienna. Additionally, Evan has some language ability in French and Italian.

Previously, Evan served as the executive director of two different ballet schools and worked on staff at two opera companies. Evan is drawn to the nonprofit sector because of the passion that people bring to their work and the focus on building a future that is brighter, stronger, and better. As an arts administrator, Evan saw the direct impact of his work on the community. This kind of work is inspirational and Evan is excited to be able to aid other organizations in reaching their fullest potential.

During Evan’s time at Seattle Opera, he worked with community organizations to create community forums and presentations to foster important discussions around race and stereotypes specifically related to Madame Butterfly. Evan is passionate about helping to foster these kinds of discussions to make opera a more inclusive art form.

Evan serves on Seattle Opera’s BRAVO! Council, which leads the charge to engage young patrons from 21-40 in opera-related events and to keep them engaged in the long term.

Fun fact: Evan recently completed his barre teacher training at Barre Bohemian and hopes to be teaching sometime soon!
