As the Technology Volunteering Program Manager, Crystal oversees the Plan IT cohort program designed to assist nonprofits to be successful in technology. As a member of the 501 Commons Database Consulting team, she brings 8 years of experience as a Salesforce system administrator within the nonprofit community. Crystal also carries a diverse knowledge of technology information systems, the ability to communicate terms in non “techie” lingo, and an understanding of nonprofits barriers to technology improvements.
The past year has found Crystal as a Salesforce consultant for a handful of small nonprofits. Previously she worked at the Phinney Neighborhood Association with multiple roles over seven years, including membership coordination, Salesforce administration and internal IT management. Her helpful attitude came from a desire to teach her peers how to best utilize technology tools as a benefit to their work.
Born in Mississippi but raised in Gainesville Florida, Crystal came to Seattle with her family right before high school. With a dual major in Social Sciences (with a focus on race, class, and gender) and Communications from the University of Washington, Crystal recognizes the crucial role of nonprofits to serve multiple factors within a community, and she made a commitment to keep her employment within the nonprofit sector. Away from work, Crystal is an integral part of northwest music festivals. She loves contributing to events that transform a space into a beautiful world with interactive art, music, performance, workshops and dance.
Fun Fact: Crystal spent several years travelling throughout North America by unconventional means of freight train hopping and hitchhiking alongside other homeless young adults. She traveled as far as Halifax, Nova Scotia, but her favorite time was in Montreal, Quebec. It was a time of both hardship and adventure.
