Born in Cambodia, Rida got sponsored to move to the United States in 1985 from a refugee camp in Thailand. She and her family relocated to Washington State in 1992. She worked at South Seattle Community College for 10 years, where she also furthered her education in technology while working as part of a work study program for their Department of Planning & Research. Rida has received three Associate of Science degrees from South Seattle Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Eastern Washington University. Working at South Seattle Community College gave her the skills to communicate with student of diverse cultures and nationalities. The students taught her to be open minded and care for the community we live in. Since then, she's worked in many areas of the technology field, including working for many vendors and enterprise help desks for more than a decade.
Rida has always wanted to work in the nonprofit sector because of their work ethic in helping people without judgement regardless of their race or background. She wants to give back for all the help, knowledge, and education she received while she was in search of herself. She seeks to return the favor to the community that has made her who she is today.
She is bilingual, speaking both Khmer and English. Rida wants to help people in her community and show them that anything is possible if you have a goal, a good heart, and the determination to make it happen.
Fun Fact: During her spare time, Rida enjoys spending time with family, gardening, feeding stray cats and birds, and watching nature.
