Tes was born and raised in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. He attended college in Germany, graduating with a degree in Geology, and adding German to the list of languages he can speak (Amharic, English, and German). The diversity visa program then offered he and his wife the opportunity to relocate to the United States in 1997. He studied Network Administration at South Seattle College and later worked at a local professional HR service provider as a systems administrator for over 10 years.
Tes's appreciation of the work nonprofits provide in improving the common good of communities, societies, and the globe brought him to 501 Commons. He is intentional about staying connected with his roots and the local Ethiopian community. Not only does he support fundraising for projects back in Ethiopia, such as new public infrastructure and libraries, but he also helps members of the local community navigate the bureaucracy of the consulate office through facilitating paperwork support and communications.
In his spare time, Tes reads - biography and history are his favorites - and travels with his daughters.
Fun Fact: Tes loves to run! His favorite places to run in the Puget Sound area are the trails in Saltwater State Park.
