Assistance Dogs Northwest: Sound Bookkeeping Makes a Difference

Posted Feb 27, 2017 01:05 PM
Do you need bookkeeping, payroll or tax assistance? 501 Commons’ Financial Services program can help you prepare your Form 990, set up sound accounting practices, pay your staff, and make sure you stay in compliance of city, state, and federal tax laws.

Our Financial Services team brings years of experience in bookkeeping and financial management to our clients. We strive to get rid of your headaches so that you can instead focus on your important mission-based work.

One program in particular that is attractive to smaller organizations with no office or very few staff is our On-Site & Virtual Financial Services. Assistance Dogs Northwest is one such organization that uses this service.

Since 2000, Assistance Dogs of Hawaii has provided service dogs for children and adults with disabilities and health conditions, nursing home residents, wounded military veterans, and children testifying in court. Their popularity in Hawaii spilled over into the Pacific Northwest, inspiring them to open a local Washington-based chapter called Assistance Dogs Northwest.

Executive Director Maureen Maurer says the growth of her organization made their accounting a lot more complex.

“As our program outreach grew in the Pacific Northwest, our bookkeeping was becoming more complicated. We appreciate the 501 Commons’ expertise in nonprofit accounting practices,” she says. “It’s been great to have access to people who are so familiar with the sector.”

As an organization with a limited budget, Maureen says she appreciates working with people who are knowledgeable about the nonprofit sector and are capable of tackling complicated issues efficiently.

“As a CPA myself, I understand the importance of good bookkeeping practices,” Maureen says.
