We’re proud to partner with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as a sponsor for the upcoming Techtacular (April 4 at the HUB Ballroom)! Learn more about the Gates Foundation’s commitment to the nonprofit community and why they’ve chosen to support 501 Commons.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation tackles ambitious goals by leveraging resources to make lasting change and improve people’s lives. When NPower’s technology services were integrated into 501 Commons last year, the foundation was a key supporter in making the transition possible. In 2009, the Foundation supported the development of the Statewide Nonprofit Resource Directory on the 501 Commons website.

501 Commons has been fortunate to continue NPower’s relationship with the Gates Foundation’s Chief Information Officer (CIO), Dale Christian. Dale is a member of our CIO Advisory Council and Board of Directors, and he understands the exciting potential of technology at 501 Commons:

“I believe in the power of technology to create transformative change in every industry and in every interaction. I have spent much of my career applying that belief for profit, and it’s gratifying to now put it to use for public good.”

Besides providing support for bringing the two organizations together, the Gates Foundation valued the potential impact of integrating technology into the larger context of nonprofit management support. Says Dale, “Having a full-service capacity building organization for Washington nonprofits creates a powerful lever for our community.  It will help local funding go further and help more people get the services they need.” We’re also excited about having a more comprehensive selection of services under one roof and the increased ways we can help nonprofits.

Technology is central to most nonprofits’ operations. As Dale comments, “We’re in an unprecedented period in technology development and use.  Innovation is coming at a pace that outstrips anything seen before.  I want to see the benefits of that innovation come to those who need it most, not just those who can afford it.” By integrating the management expertise of 501 Commons and the technology services of NPower, we believe we can deliver better solutions to nonprofits at a lower cost.

Dale Christian looks forward to continuing his role as a 501 Commons supporter and board member. And we thank Dale and the Gates Foundation for their continued support of the nonprofit community and for their sponsorship of Techtacular.
