Shared HR Model for Nonprofits: Together We Thrive!

Posted Jul 27, 2026 01:43 PM
For small and mid-sized nonprofits that need access to foundational HR tools, training, and ongoing support but have limited budgets…look no further than 501 Commons’ Shared HR Model!
This model allows multiple organizations to be grouped into a “shared HR services pod” so that every participant receives high-value resources and experienced HR guidance at a significantly reduced entry point cost.

To enter the program, your organization will pay an initial $1,200 fee. This provides you with an employee handbook aligned with your city, county, state, and federal employment requirements, a foundational HR document library (covering job descriptions, FSLA, 1099/independent contractor considerations, and recruitment tools), and access to a compensation basics seminar, educational materials, and a helpful spreadsheet.

Afterward, for $600 per month, you get four hours of monthly HR support. Your HR consultant can offer services such as:
  • Customizing your handbook, library, tools, and training.
  • Answering your HR questions and providing consultation.
  • Offering guidance on implementing your handbook or new policies.
  • Reviewing job descriptions.
  • Answering questions about FLSA exempt and nonexempt classification.
  • Helping you make 1099/independent contractor considerations.
  • Supporting employee recruitment.
  • Providing clarity on compensation questions.
  • Guiding better employee relations practices.
  • Offering expertise in documentation and compliance-centered HR practices.
The “shares services” model helps nonprofits build essential HR infrastructure while sharing the cost of tools, training, and expertise. Executive directors and operations leaders can get their HR questions answered before issues become urgent. This program is tailored for organizations that need consistent HR expertise but are not ready for a larger HR partnership or making an internal HR hire.
