About Besserman Associates

Besserman Associates is a small, woman-owned consultancy offering full public affairs and non profit strategy services. We strive to provide our clients with well-rounded services, personalized to fit their unique needs.

Besserman Associates limits the number of clients we work with in an effort to give each the attention it deserves. Karen Besserman always serves as the primary contact for every client. No project is too big – or too small – for Besserman Associates.

During my career, I have worked on many high-profile campaigns. Since 2000, I worked on Maria Cantwell’s successful campaign to the US Senate and managed two Seattle mayoral campaigns. I have worked closely with many in the non-profit community and have raised money and organized high-level and annual events throughout Seattle and the Puget Sound region. I also worked on the state’s efforts to convince Boeing to build and construct the 7E7 (now 787) in the Seattle area.

Other highlights:

• Committee for Children, building an aggressive advocacy program at both the state and national level. We successfully sponsored and saw passage of legislation in Olympia and Washington, DC, hosted a Congressional briefing focused on school safety and worked to add social emotional learning to basic education standards in both Washington State and Massachusetts.

• Organization for Prostitution Survivors, the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) and the Minority Executive Directors Coalition (MEDC). While working with NCJW, I dramatically increased their overall fundraising and worked with a first-ever major donor to develop an endowment to allow the direct service program to more than double its client services, providing home furnishing to women setting up new housing after leaving a domestic violence situation.

• Graduate for the Seattle Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Tomorrow program.

• Board member of a local non-profit women’s health clinic and assisted them in strategic and long-term planning, fundraising, public relations and event planning.

• Worked with Inlaws & Outlaws/local filmmaker to raise money for the national self-distribution of his film. For this project, I created an individual donor campaign from scratch which included direct donor solicitation as well as several events.
