Mark Smutny founded Civic Reinventions, Inc. to help nonprofits and civic organizations thrive. He helps organizations uncover the wisdom hidden in their diversity, build cohesion, and achieve their goals.

With decades of experience facilitating meetings and retreats, and working with nonprofits, Mark Smutny has worked with clients in affordable housing, homeless services, transportation services for special needs populations, business and resident associations, senior services, refugee and new immigrant services, faith-based groups, public/private partnerships, and other nonprofit organizations dedicated to civic engagement. He is the author of the book, THRIVE: The Facilitator’s Guide to Radically Inclusive Meetings, a primer on how to transform all types of meetings to be creative, energized, and inclusive.

Mark received his Master of Divinity degree from Harvard Divinity School, one of the most religiously diverse theological institutions in the world. His doctorate focused on organizational revitalization in multicultural settings. He is a Program Associate for the Kaleidoscope Institute, a faith-based nonprofit in Los Angeles dedicated to building inclusive organizations and meeting practices.
