About Parallel Public Works
Founded in 1999, Parallel Public Works specializes in the creation of web applications, mobile apps, and software products specifically for governments, non-profits, and the public space. We provide digital marketing and content strategy consulting, design services, user testing, custom application development, CMS implementation, software training, and ongoing support services.
Our mission is to use technology to create transparency and build trust between organizations and the communities they serve. Collectively our team has over 40 years of experience working in web development and media. We embrace Agile principles in our project management approach and emphasize highly structured, iterative workflows coupled with transparent and open communication. Below is a sample of some of our recent experience and capabilities.
User-centered design driven by research and data: Parallel employs a user-centered design process for all our projects that consider a user’s motivations, primary goals, and potential frustrations. We depend on data derived from surveys, stakeholder interviews, task-based user testing, and site analytics to guide design and development decisions. We’ve recently used these principles to help Oregon Metro build a new Drupal-based Constituency Relationship Management (CRM) system.
A history of building complex online resource libraries: Parallel created a large online asset library for the Puget Sound Regional Council that serves the entire region by providing access to critical census data, housing statistics, and transportation funding reporting.
CMS experts: Our team has designed, developed, and currently manages several completely custom Drupal sites for Northwest Biosolids, the State of Washington, The University of Washington, and others.
Expertise in creating clear, simple information architecture: Parallel has developed content strategies, site maps, and responsive information architectures for highly complex organizations like Puget Sound Regional Council and the WA State Department of Early Learning.
Change management: Parallel assists clients with updating and improving their workflows when new technological systems are adopted. For example, we have developed a Digital Infrastructure and Communications Strategy for the City of Burien to help guide their IT decisions for the next 5-7 years.
Donor management: Parallel has optimized donor work flows for local, regional, and national nonprofits
