About Sound Nonprofits

Sound Nonprofits – your partner for sustainability – is a consulting firm focused on working with nonprofits who want to expand their capacity to be more effective. The services provided are grounded in more than thirty-five years of nonprofit leadership and management experience of the Principal, Liz Heath.

Areas of specialty include all aspects of governance – assessment, roles and responsibilities, recruitment and education, board development planning and fulfilling oversight responsibilities. Other areas of service include planning, organizational analysis and improvement, leadership development, policies and procedures, meeting and retreat planning and facilitation, training. In addition, Liz serves as an Interim Executive Director for organizations in leadership transition.

We believe that we can be most effective by partnering with you – bringing together our collective knowledge and experience to create a successful future for your nonprofit. Change does not occur as the result of one interaction, so we are committed to sustained relationships with our clients. Just like your soccer or swim coach, we will help you learn and absorb new practices or approaches over time so that they become winning strategies to move your organization forward.

When filling the role of Interim Executive Director, Liz is committed to guiding the organization through change and building its capacity to welcome its new executive leader. This begins with an assessment which leads to the development and implementation of a transition plan. As a result, the new ED will come into an organization that is ready to make the next steps forward with great success.

It is our practice on every engagement to hold a no-cost proposal meeting at the outset. In this meeting we will define the goals and parameters of our work together, and then a proposal which meets those goals will be prepared and submitted. We usually work on a flat-fee basis, but certainly can provide hourly or not-to-exceed proposals.

It is rewarding to know that the impact of our work can extend for many years. For example, work with one nonprofit board resulted in the following statement from the Executive Director:

“Liz has been working with our board and staff for a couple of years to build a stronger board, clarify roles, establish best practices, and lead us through processes to create a better organization to more effectively serve our participants. She has helped our organization grow up, and as a result we have a more positive impact on the communities we serve.”
